Overview of Implant Placement

Understanding the Implant Process

Dental implant placement is a carefully planned surgical procedure tailored to each individual. It restores oral function, preserves bone structure, and improves your overall smile.

The Dental Implant Surgical Procedure

Healing time varies for each person depending on bone quality and quantity. In some cases, the implant can be restored immediately. Your surgeon will outline a personalized recovery plan. Once initial healing occurs, a healing cap or abutment may be placed to help shape the gum tissue and prepare for the final crown.
In some instances, impressions for the crown can be taken during the implant placement visit, allowing restoration once healing is complete. Follow-up visits (usually one to four) help ensure proper healing and readiness for final restoration.
Soft tissue grafting may be recommended to improve the gum contour and appearance around the implant. This procedure involves moving gum tissue to the implant site and is generally quick and comfortable.
Whether you’re replacing a single tooth or several, your dentist will complete treatment by attaching a custom-made crown to your implant.
