Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
Home Instructions Before Oral Surgery
Please review the following guidelines to properly prepare for your upcoming IV sedation procedure:
- Do not eat or drink anything—including water—for at least eight hours before your scheduled appointment.
- Avoid smoking for at least 12 hours prior to surgery. For best results, we recommend reducing or quitting smoking in the days leading up to your procedure.
- You must be accompanied by a responsible adult who can remain on-site throughout the procedure and drive you home afterward.
- Do not operate any vehicles or heavy equipment for 24 hours after receiving sedation.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing with sleeves that can be rolled above the elbow, and choose flat, secure shoes.
- Please remove contact lenses, all jewelry, and dentures before the procedure begins.
- Avoid wearing lipstick, heavy makeup, or nail polish on the day of your surgery.
- Inform our office if you develop any cold, sore throat, digestive upset, or other illness before your appointment.
- If you take prescription medications regularly, check with Williams before your surgery for guidance on how to manage them that day.
